Marinas & Boating
Boating opportunities are limitless in Franklin County and the area is renowned for both fresh and saltwater fishing opportunities. The unique topography of the Apalachicola River and Bay systems, in combination with the county’s gulf coast location, provides diverse marine habitats including the Apalachicola River basin, the estuary system, wetlands, four barrier islands, oyster bars, sand flats and seagrass flats. Fishing guide services and boat rentals are available countywide. If you choose to bring your own boat, marinas and public boat launching sites are plentiful throughout the county.
Alligator Point offers several public boat ramps ranging from canoe and kayak launches at Leonard’s Landing to the boat ramp at the Ochlocknee Bridge on Highway 98 which accommodates larger boats to the ramp on Sun ‘n Sands Road for which 4-wheel drive is recommended to launch a boat of any size. The S Curve ramp is located about a mile east of the marina on Alligator Harbor across from the S Curve beach access. The Alligator Point Yacht Basin boat ramp is located within the marina near the old ship’s store, no trailer parking on the marina property or on the right-of-way is permitted and 4-wheel drive is recommended for launching any sizeable boat.
Apalachicola offers several public boat ramps that can accommodate any trailer-able boat. Battery Park is located at the foot of the John Gorrie Memorial Bridge on Bay Avenue between 4th and 6th Streets in downtown Apalachicola, the park offers several public boat ramps, a playground and a fishing pier. Another ramp is located on Market Street at Mill Pond on Scipio Creek. The Lombardi boat ramp is located near the westerly entrance into Apalachicola on US Highway 98.
Carrabelle offers three public boat ramps, one on Highway 98 in Carrabelle, one on Timber Island, and a newly refurbished double ramp at the end of Marine Street.
The Indian Creek Boat Ramp is located in Eastpoint on a five-acre park on Indian Creek that leads to Apalachicola Bay East. There is ample parking space available at the old “ferry dock landing” site.
The St. George Island boat ramp is located on the northeast side of the St. George Island fishing bridge. This newly constructed concrete ramp has become very popular and can accommodate various size boats. It offers parking for 13 cars and 14 boat/trailer combos.
Two boat ramps are available at
St. George Island State Park both of which provide access to the Apalachicola Bay. The first boat ramp is located next to the park's youth camp with the second ramp 2.5 miles from the park entrance. Both ramps can accommodate boats not much larger than 21 feet in length with a shallow draft, depending on current tide. A small fee is required.
